This article presents a critical comparative analysis of Pauline ethics, focusing on its soteriological, pneumatological, sacramental, love-centered, and eschatological dimensions. Utilizing key New Testament texts and scholarly interpretations, it explores how Paul situates moral life within God’s saving work in Christ, the empowering presence of the Spirit, participation in baptism and the Lord’s Supper, the primacy of love, and the tension between the "Already" and the "Not yet." The book pays special attention to the social orientation of Pauline love as a principle that shapes community life and counters self-centeredness. These themes are then examined in dialogue with Qur’anic perspectives on divine mercy, human responsibility, piety, prophetic continuity, and individual accountability. Although both traditions assert that ethical living depends on divine initiative and must be expressed in concrete relationships, significant differences arise concerning the role of Christ’s death, the nature of moral responsibility, the function of religious practices, and the trajectory of salvation history. The article argues that a careful comparative reading clarifies both the internal coherence of Pauline ethics and the distinctive theological framework of the Qur’an, contributing to a more nuanced understanding of moral thought in both scriptural traditions.

The study of cosmological structures in sacred texts has been a central focus of theological and inter-textual scholarship. This research analyzes the concept of the "Seven Heavens" as presented in the Noble Qur’an, compares it with references in the Two Testaments, and investigates the concept's underlying epistemological and exegetical foundations. Employing a descriptive-analytical and comparative methodology, the study utilizes content analysis of Qur’anic verses, texts from the Two Testaments, and authoritative exegetical works in comparative theology. The findings demonstrate that, while both Abrahamic traditions acknowledge the concept of heaven and its multiplicity, the Noble Qur’an articulates the notion of the "Seven Heavens" with greater precision and detail, depicting it as an orderly, multilayered structure within divine creation. From symbolic and structural perspectives, this concept can be examined alongside scientific and astronomical models developed in later centuries, enabling deeper interpretation and illustrating the Qur’an’s scientific inimitability. Although the Two Testaments do not explicitly reference the number seven in this context, they describe multiple heavenly levels, thus providing a foundation for interreligious dialogue among monotheistic faiths.

The existence of diverse and seemingly contradictory accounts in the Bible concerning the characteristics of angels, particularly with respect to impeccability and free will, on the one hand, and the coherent and rational portrayal of angels in the Qur’an on the other, necessitates a comparative examination of the three fundamental characteristics of glorification, impeccability, and the assigned rank. The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate the superiority of the Qur’anic perspective in presenting a consistent, rational, and contradiction-free depiction of angels compared with the inconsistencies found in Jewish and Christian scriptures. The study employs a comparative content-analysis method, examining relevant scriptural passages with particular emphasis on the similarities and differences concerning these three characteristics. The principal findings indicate that, in all three Abrahamic religions, angels are charged with glorifying God. However, the Qur’an emphasizes the universality of this glorification, presenting it simultaneously as an essential element in preserving the cosmic order (ontological dimension) and as an act of pure worship (legislative dimension).<br>Furthermore, by explicitly affirming the angels’ absolute obedience to the divine command and denying any possibility of rebellion, the Qur’an establishes the doctrine of the angels’ inherent impeccability. In contrast, the Old and New Testaments, as well as the Apocryphal literature, present narratives of "Fallen Angels" and depict angels as capable of independently violating divine commands, thereby giving rise to significant theological inconsistencies. Likewise, while the Qur’an explicitly affirms that every angel possesses a designated rank and specific responsibilities, the Biblical texts remain ambiguous on this issue. In contrast, the Apocryphal writings introduce inconsistent hierarchical classifications, such as the doctrine of the seven archangels. The study concludes that, unlike the Bible's contradictions regarding angelic impeccability and its ambiguity concerning angelic hierarchy, the Qur’an presents a rational, coherent, and thoroughly monotheistic understanding of angels, offering a clear, intellectually persuasive, and internally consistent doctrine.

Jewish religious texts, particularly the Old Testament, frequently reference a sacred and enigmatic object known as the "Ark of the Covenant," which is significant due to its various functions and its close association with the divine presence, the "Shekhinah." According to Yahweh's command, Moses constructed the Ark of the Covenant and placed within it the stone tablets bearing the Ten Commandments, inscribed at Mount Sinai. This study examines the relationship between the "Ark of the Covenant" and the "Shekhinah" in the Old Testament, and the "Ark" and "Sakīnah" in the Qur’an and Islamic exegetical tradition, with the aim of clarifying the similarities and differences between these concepts in the two monotheistic traditions. A comparative-analytical method is employed. The findings indicate that, unlike the Old Testament, the Qur’an does not address the origin or circumstances of the Ark of the Covenant's emergence and refers to it only once, in Surah al-Baqarah. While the Ark of the Covenant is associated with the Shekhinah in the Old Testament as a locus of divine presence, the Qur’an explicitly connects the Sakīnah with the Ark. However, Qur’anic Sakīnah primarily signifies dignity, tranquility, and reassurance bestowed by God upon Moses, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the believers during moments of battle. It manifests God’s majestic and awe-inspiring aspect rather than His beauty-oriented, aspect. In contrast, the Shekhinah in the Old Testament, beyond providing consolation and tranquility, also fulfills roles such as guidance and punishment.

The account of the Prophet Moses’ (peace be upon him) request to behold God appears in both the Holy Qur’an and the Old Testament. In the Qur’an, the episode is narrated in Qur’an 7:143, while in the Old Testament it is described in Exodus 33. The Qur’anic account introduces divine manifestation (tajallī) in connection with Moses’ request, whereas the Old Testament frames the encounter through the glory of God. Muslim exegetes have offered divergent interpretations of both the possibility of seeing God and the meaning of tajallī, producing a range of theological and hermeneutical positions. Using a comparative approach, this study addresses three questions: whether a joint reading of the Qur’anic and Biblical narratives yields a more accurate understanding of the event; what similarities and differences distinguish the two accounts; and whether deeper semantic and theological correspondences can be identified beyond their apparent convergences and divergences. The research adopts a library-based method involving examination of primary texts, historical analysis of Islamic exegetical traditions, and comparative textual interpretation. The findings indicate that both scriptures reject the possibility of a direct vision of the Divine Essence and emphasize the limitations of human perception. Moreover, the Old Testament’s emphasis on divine glory provides comparative support for Islamic interpretations that understand Moses’ request not as an attempt to perceive the Divine Essence itself, but as a desire to witness a manifestation of God’s signs, attributes, or effects. This comparison clarifies the theological meaning of the episode and strengthens a non-corporeal interpretation of divine manifestation.
<OtherAbstract Language="FA">The narrative of the Prophet Moses’ request to behold God appears in both the Holy Quran and the Old Testament. In the Quran, this episode is found in (Quran 7:143), while the Old Testament presents it most extensively in Exodus 33. The Quran introduces the concept of divine manifestation alongside Moses’ request, whereas the Old Testament frames the encounter primarily through the notion of God's glory. Among Muslim exegetes, significant disagreement persists regarding both the nature of the vision of God and the interpretation of manifestation, resulting in a broad spectrum of theological and exegetical perspectives. Employing a comparative methodology, this study addresses three central questions: ‘Does a comparative analysis of the Quranic and Old Testament accounts yield a more precise understanding of this episode?’ ‘What are the main similarities and differences between the two scriptural traditions?’ ‘Beyond apparent agreements and divergences, can deeper semantic and theological correspondences be discerned?’ This research utilizes a library-based approach, examining primary texts (Quranic verses and relevant Biblical passages), analyzing Islamic exegetical traditions, and conducting comparative textual analysis. The findings indicate that both scriptures deny the possibility of a direct vision of the Divine Essence, while emphasizing the inherent limitations of human perception. Additionally, the Old Testament's focus on the glory of God offers significant comparative support for Islamic interpretations that view Moses' request not as a vision of the Divine Essence, but as the manifestation of God's signs and attributes.</OtherAbstract>

This article uses a descriptive-analytical, comparative approach to examine and explain women's status in the Qur'an and the New Testament. The analysis is organized around such axes as the creation of woman, original sin and Eve's error, women's rights, hijab and modesty, and the views of selected religious figures. The aim is to describe and analyze the similarities and differences observed in the textual evidence of the Qur'an and the New Testament and to interpret them within the framework of each of these two textual corpora. In this analysis, particular views found in some New Testament epistles are not generalized to the entire New Testament, and the analysis distinguishes between textual evidence, theological interpretations, and historical developments. The findings indicate that, in areas such as the creation of woman, original sin, women's rights, and hijab and modesty, the two textual corpora differ in expression and in the scope of their teachings. This study analyzes these differences within the limits of the evidence examined and avoids attributing the views of a particular text or individual to an entire religious tradition.

Sacred texts in the Abrahamic religions are among the most important sources shaping religious beliefs and teachings, and their interpretation throughout history has produced diverse exegetical approaches. One such approach is literalist exegesis, which emphasizes attention to the text's linguistic implications and apparent meaning. However, the authority of apparent meanings should not be equated with excessive literalism, since context, indications, authoritative sources, and rational principles may influence how a text's intended meaning is determined.Using a descriptive-analytical and comparative method, this study examines literalist trends in interpreting the Noble Qur’an, the Old Testament, and the New Testament. It seeks to explain the foundations and differences between verbal literalism and rationalist literalism in these three domains. Accordingly, while examining the basis for the authority of the apparent meanings of words, the study analyzes the role of contextual indicators and sources in determining the limits of textual appearance, as well as exegetes’ approaches to difficult expressions and divine attributes. The findings indicate that all three exegetical traditions attend to the text's apparent meaning, but its meaning and scope differ. In verbal literalism, the primary and customary signification of words constitutes the central criterion, and departure from it is more restricted. Rationalist literalism, by contrast, accepts the authority of apparent meaning but allows departure from the initial meaning and the adoption of an allegorical interpretation when reliable rational, transmitted, or historical evidence is present. The comparative analysis also shows that literalism in all three domains has been shaped by their particular historical contexts, epistemological foundations, and exegetical controversies, and therefore cannot be regarded as a uniform or homogeneous trend.

Are altruism and self-interest truly opposites, or can they align within a redefined self? The present paper contends that the dichotomy dissolves when we move beyond the atomistic self of neoclassical economics and adopt a fluid, relational model of identity. Drawing on sacred narratives, the Judeo-Christian command to "Love your neighbor" and the Qur'anic concept of referring others over oneself, and a randomized experiment with 252 Iranians, we demonstrate that self-interest is shaped by how the self is defined. Biblical parables expand the self to include strangers, while Islamic narratives redefine it within a transcendent communal identity. Our experiment supports this: priming parental identity increased support for Afghan refugees by 12.5 percentage points when refugees were framed as parents.By comparison, national priming increased support by 31.2 percentage points when refugees were framed as compatriots. These findings show that self-interest is not fixed but reflects salient group identity. We conclude that altruism and self-interest are not opposing ethical stances, but two aspects of the extended self, with important implications for behavioral economics, political psychology, and migration ethics.

Magic represents a complex, multilayered concept in the Holy Qur’an. Semantic analysis reveals that, along the paradigmatic axis, Magic appears alongside concepts such as "Book," "Wisdom," "Qur’an," "Torah," and "Gospel." Concurrently, at the agentive level, it is associated with clusters including "The Disbelievers," "The Wrongdoers," and "The Criminals." However, intra-textual analysis alone does not elucidate the rationale for these semantic substitutions. Therefore, this article employs an inter-textual approach to Jewish texts, including the Torah, the Talmud, and inter-testament literature, to reconstruct the cultural and religious context in which the Qur’an engages with earlier traditions.By employing structural semantics in the analysis of the Qur’anic text and thematic analysis of Jewish sources, this study contends that Magic in both traditions is not an isolated term but is situated within a shared semantic network comprising three components: "Empowerment," "Wonder-production," and "Learnability." These components account for the Qur’an’s placement of Magic alongside the Book, Wisdom, and other forms of divine knowledge on the paradigmatic axis, despite its opposing evaluative status. The primary distinguishing factor within this network is the "Source of Knowledge": revelation, the Book, and prophethood originate from God and the obedient “heavenly group,” whereas the Qur'an attributes magic and divination to devils, and Jewish texts to rebellious angels and demons.Accordingly, this article shows that considering Jewish inter-texts clarifies the logic behind Qur’anic semantic substitutions. While the Qur’an shares a semantic structure with the Jewish tradition in distinguishing magic from miracles, it offers a critical, monotheistic reinterpretation by defining Magic as "Non-divine, competing knowledge that confers power."<br><br><br><br><br><br>

Surah Ṣād in the Holy Qur’an recounts a judgment made by David, followed by a report of his error and subsequent repentance. In this judgment, an individual possessing ninety-nine ewes and desiring his brother’s single ewe is identified as an oppressor. Two principal interpretations have been advanced regarding the nature of David’s error. The first holds that David judged in favor of the complainant solely on his statement, without hearing the accused's defense. Support for this interpretation is found in the surrounding verses, which, after describing David’s error, instruct him to judge among people with justice. The second interpretation, informed by the narrative’s antecedent in the Old Testament, views the reference to "The single ewe to be added to the many ewes" as an allusion to David himself. In the Old Testament, David, despite having many wives, took the wife of Uriah the Hittite, and the prophet Nathan, through a parable similar to that in the Qur’an, made David aware of his transgression. This study argues that, regardless of the antecedent, the first interpretation is decisive; however, the antecedent narrative shapes the audience’s interpretive framework and should not be disregarded.<br><br><br>

Death, loss, suffering, and affliction are fundamental concerns that, in religious traditions, are connected with the meaning of life, justice, moral responsibility, and the relationship between humanity and God. This descriptive, analytical, and comparative study examines the meaning-making functions of teachings on death, the afterlife, affliction, judgment, reward, and punishment in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, drawing on the Bible, the Qur’an, and exegetical works. The findings show that in all three traditions, death is understood as more than a biological event: it is associated with responsibility, hope, and humanity’s ultimate destiny, although conceptions of resurrection, judgment, and the relationship between this world and the hereafter differ. In Judaism, historical diversity in conceptions of death and the prominence of covenant, law, and this-worldly justice are significant; in Christianity, eternal life is linked to the mission of Jesus Christ; and in Islam, death is understood in the horizon of return to God, the "Barzakh," reckoning, divine mercy, and repentance. The study emphasizes that suffering and affliction are not necessarily definitive punishments for sin, and that a responsible interpretation of them requires empathy, seeking treatment, and striving for justice. Teachings on judgment and punishment, moreover, are linked not only to moral admonition but also to mercy, repentance, and responsibility toward others. The article’s contribution lies in its integrated analysis of this conceptual network and its distinction among three levels: sacred text, religious interpretation, and functional analysis.

In the Abrahamic religions, revelation is not merely a channel for transmitting doctrinal propositions; rather, it constitutes a form of guiding relationship between God and human beings. Consequently, each sacred text’s conception of revelation plays a significant role in determining the foundations and methods of religious education. The present study aims to reconstruct and compare the semantic network of revelation in the Holy Qur’an and the Old Testament and to derive its educational implications. The research adopts a qualitative, analytical-comparative methodology. The primary data were extracted from the two sacred texts and examined through an analysis of key lexical items, syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations, and a comparison of seven components: "Source, content, mode of communication, intermediary, recipient, addressee, and purpose." The findings indicate that, in the Qur’an, the association of revelation with speech, word, descent, impartation, reception, recitation, and proclamation forms a verbal-revelatory-guiding pattern. In the Old Testament, the evident co-occurrence of appearing, seeing, knowing, speech, vision, historical event, and covenant highlights a revelatory-historical-covenantal pattern. Both patterns agree on the divine source of guidance, the human being as recipient, and the connection between knowledge and practical response. However, the Qur’an places greater emphasis on understanding, reasoning, proclamation, and individual and collective responsibility. Conversely, the Old Testament emphasizes narrative, collective memory, covenantal identity, and historical faithfulness. Therefore, revelation-based education should balance epistemic authority with learner agency, instruction with dialogue, knowledge with action, and individual experience with collective memory. The study's innovation is the presentation of a traceable chain from textual evidence to educational implications, evaluated in relation to specialized literature on religious education.
